about Big Creek Kennels

Welcome to Big Creek Kennels home of champion Dalmatians and Dobermans.  We are located in the beautiful town of Amherstburg, Ontario, about 20 minutes south of Windsor and the Canadian/U.S. border.  Big Creek Kennel was established in 2007.  We are a registered kennel with the Canadian Kennel Club and have a Kennel License from the Town of Amherstburg.

In the spring of 2010, ground was broken to begin construction of our kennel facility, which is  an integral part of our home and daily life.  Our 1200 square foot kennel addition has a kennel room with indoor/outdoor kennel runs complete with indoor in floor heating, a separate shower room complete with full laundry ammenities, a dedicated whelping room and a large office loft that overlooks the whelping room. Although we have this beautiful, state of the art kennel, our dogs are family members and not "kennel dwellers".  They are often found beneath our feet in the kitchen or lounging on the sofa.  The dogs are fortunate to have fenced in acreage to run and play on.  The wooded areas along the perimeter of the fencing is home to various wildlife and birds for the dogs to bark at and harass.

Marty and Joan Ross have owned dogs together almost from the moment we met.  Marty is a licensed veterinarian with a practice in Amherstburg and Joan has the privilege to be a "stay-at-home" dog mom.  Dalmatians have always been a part of our life together and our first 4 Dals were wonderful pets that forever cemented our love of the breed.  With the passing of Jasmine, the search for another Dalmatian family member began.  In 2003, an introduction to Linda and Doug Taylor of Cranbrooke Dalmatians resulted in acquiring Bugs (Am/Can Ch. Cranbrooke Doc's Handsome Dude) who Linda handled easily to both his American and Canadian championship titles.  Our friendship continued with the 2004 addition and co-ownership of Poppy (Am/Can Ch. Cranbrooke Doc's Pop'n Up Stars) and this began our passion in the show world.  In 2009, along came Corey (Am/Can Ch . Big Creek Doc's Spice of Life) our first  "home grown" Big Creek Champion!  Corey is handled exclusively by Marty and while Corey and Marty "learned the ropes" of showing together, they easily obtained both her Canadian and American Championship titles.  In the summer of 2010, we  added Rodney (Mi-Ti's Hot Rod), a gorgeous red, male Doberman who is  handled by Marty in Canada and Shirley Baker (co-breeder) in the U.S.  Rodney is well on his way to both his Canadian and American titles including obtaining all of his required majors!  

Also part of the Big Creek family are our Dobermans Tren (Dreamseeker Doc's Trendy Girl) and Elly (Can Ch. Dizzy Dollies Sweden Ellylynn) our German Pinscher.  As you would likely guess, Dobermans are our other love!  And finally, we can't forget Mr. Whiskers, our resident cat who has no idea he is a fluffy, orange kitty but rather" just one of the gang"!
